When the doctor is confident that your pet is healthy enough to undergo surgery, an anesthetic is given to ensure that your pet is unconscious and pain free during the procedure. A combination of injectable and gas anesthesia is delivered and the patient is monitored throughout the operation. Once the animal is under anesthesia, the surgical site is prepared by clipping the hair, and cleaning with surgical soap and alcohol. The doctor uses full sterile technique including mask, cap, gown and gloves, and the surgical environment (operating room) is fully sterilized, in order to prevent infection. |
